It’s such a cliche to say that, as a harmonica player, I love the blues. Still, I haven’t primarily been a blues player since the mid-1990s, I’ve fallen away from the local blues community (such as it is), and a true blues gig is a rare thing to me. I’ve mostly been playing rootsy stuff and Americana and whatnot for a long time. But a few days ago, I picked up a rando pickup blues band gig with Brian Gross, a guy I played with regularly a quarter-century ago, and up showed Daryl Davis, a fantastic pianist who I have been watching for a very long time.
