Look, I long ago accepted the idea that I was eating things with faces on them and that it was somewhat hypocritical to define too much of a line between meat and pets. Still, I got this email today from Rocklands, the area barbecue chain, and it did make me pause a bit:
So every year we go out to the Great Frederick Fair, where the 4-H Club brings its biggest livestock to compete for prizes. And this year, we were once again lucky enough to buy the two biggest pigs in the place: The heavyweight champ and the middleweight champ. The 4-H’ers who raised them were thrilled, and we’re always happy to support local farmers.
You get to support them, too, when you come into your favorite Rocklands restaurant on Tuesday, October 5, and partake in these prize-winning pigs. We’ll be serving chopped Blue Ribbon pork sandwiches for $4.99 all day (well, until we run out!). Come taste the difference, say “hello” to fall, and support local youth farming!
This doesn’t mean I’ll pass this by. In fact, I may pick up some Wilbur on the way home Tuesday.
