I thought about using a hed for this that said, ‘WORST JOURNALISM IN THE WORLD (TODAY’S VERSION). However, I find that every time I think we’ve found a bottom on that front these days, a new bottom appears.

Anyway, here’s the screaming headline that is leading MSNBC’s site right now:

…and here’s the actual lede of that story:

Note that the lede says that the mother of one of the workers has reportedly said that they think some of them will die within weeks or months.

So: This is a report about a report about what the mother of one worker claims all of the workers believe. Even by modern journalism standards, this is so far removed from an actual act of news-gathering that it deserves special attention. And if you can scare the shit out of people with a headline that doesn’t even support this piece of non-journalism…well, so much the worse.
