Dear PR person: This one’s for you

I’ve never met Alysha, a senior account supervisor with a PR agency in New York. However, Alysha appears to know me well enough to spam a news release to my work e-mail address about the ‘Fantasy Fashion League’s mark beauty edition online,’ whatever that is.

I routinely fume at unwanted, untargeted flack releases that clog up my inbox. Still, Alysha’s efforts deserve special attention.

In addition to the useless news release, she also attached twenty-four photos and graphics, totaling hundreds of kilobytes (I’m not going to do the math but I’d roughly estimate it’s close to 400K). Of these 24, twenty-three are the exact same image (see left), in various sizes and resolutions. I imagine hundreds, if not thousands, of my colleagues got the same gift, meaning Alysha dive-bombed gigabytes of useless photos on unfortunate reporters and editors.

So, Alysha, I salute you. I’ve added you to my banned list in Outlook, so we won’t be exchanging e-mail again — but as you can see, I got good use out of the art you sent me. It’s probably not exactly what you wanted, but spammers can’t be choosers.
