I’ve been away at Nags Head for a week, where the recovery from Hurricane Irene has been quite remarkable. It was a classic September week — five days of utterly perfect beach weather and two days of windy, gray, powerful storms that make you wonder what you’re doing on an island. Still, the Outer Banks remains beautiful and has the power to revive me, even after my seventh trip there in the last 15 or so years.
