One of several odd things I remember about my wedding day: Walking around at the reception and thinking to myself, “Where’s my wife?” I paused for a second after that and reflected on what I was thinking. “Did I just say to myself, ‘Where’s my wife?’,” I thought. Then I spent a couple of seconds ruminating on the fresh oddness of that statement. Then I realized I was at my own friggin’ wedding reception and needed to snap out of it.
Flash forward 15 years. That seems like no time at all in many ways, although when I stop and reflect on it, a tremendous amount of water has passed under the bridge in that time. It really has been a relationship that has stuck together for better and worse, richer and poorer, in sickness and in health. And I’m so grateful.
