Some of you might remember the post I wrote late last summer about the Great Minnesota State Fair Foods On A Stick (featuring everybody’s favorite, bacon). Since then, there has been a new development on the Stick-Mounted-Foods front.
People at work (and by ‘people at work,’ I mean ‘me’) are obsessing about the tornado potato, a spiral-cut deep-fried potato on a stick that’s been showing up at boardwalks and fairs.
NPR had a piece on it this week. That, in turn, led me to use Mr. Google. I quickly came across this:
That’s right. Why stop with putting an entire deep-fried potato on a stick when you can shove a sausage in the middle and make something even more (literally) heart-stoppingly beautiful?
This is the sort of art I’d like to encourage. In fact, let’s keep going! I wonder, for example, if it’s possible to wrap one of these potatoes around a Bacon Explosion.
USAT will still pay for all of us to go back this summer, right?
I’d go back in a heartbeat. That state fair is just plain cool. I think that if you’re tough enough to spend winter in Minnesota, you deserve a cool state fair.
