I just had a week that neatly encapsulates my life. I spent four days in L.A. on a Knight Digital Media Center fellowship, took the red-eye back, got a few hours of sleep, played with the Anonymous Sources at the APME convention, worked for a day, played with my friend Joe’s band at a street festival, caught the Caps’ home opener, and now am sitting here on a Sunday, like a turnip. I’m resting.
The APME gig was a particular blast. People who know me professionally simply cannot get their arms around the idea that I’m a part-time, non-hack musician. I’m very serious — perhaps a little too serious — at work and my stage stuff just doesn’t translate to that image. More co-workers saw me for the first time, and a couple of ex-bosses from Back in the Day caught my APME gig, and it’s safe to say that most of them were genuinely shocked. That sort of thing never gets old.
